Tips to reduce plastic bags use!
Decline the use of bags: Often the cashier either offer a bag, or just put the item in the bag without asking your consent. Just tell them no bags please.
Bring your own reusable bags: Standby your own carry bag in your vehicle so that you would have them whenever you need them when you buy things at the store. Sometimes, cashiers will insist to give you a plastic bag to put your wet food (chicken, vegetables, and even frozen food) inside even when you declined them. Some cashiers even say this is a requirement by their supervisor, and if customers are seen carrying wet food without plastic bag, the supervisors will not be happy (I've met such a cashier!)
Reuse or recycle your existing plastic bags: For the plastic bags that you already own, rather than pile them up in your kitchen drawer, do use them again either for grocery or other use. Sort the plastic for recycle also, whenever you can by putting them into a recycle bin.
Spread the word: Raise awareness by sharing the info and talking to friends about the need to reduce plastic wastes.
If you want to recycle, please take note of the following:
Avoid black plastic bags. This is the new finding, because it seems that many scanners at recycling plants can't recognize black color or dark colored plastic bags that are not transparent, and they will not be recycled.
Separate the biodegradable/traditional plastic bags: Although having biodegradable plastic bags sounds better, but please do not mix them together for recycling. Biodegradable plastics are not recommended to be recycled, and its better to put them to the general rubbish bin, since they do not have the same materials as traditional plastics that can be recycled. Mixing them together will only cause further problems at the recycling center.
